How CAP-IT Began
CAP-IT started with one simple question:
“Isn’t there an easier way to protect fans, chandeliers, and furniture when painting?”
After a painting project in Bourbon, Indiana, founder Shon L. Hadden looked around at a room full of plastic sheets, tape, and slipping drop cloths and wanted something faster and more reliable.
While relaxing with a cup of coffee and staring at a ceiling fan and furniture that would need to be covered again, the idea emerged:
What if there were a large, cover with elastic, similar to a shower cap, that could quickly protect these items?
That moment sparked the idea for CAP-IT.
From Idea to Prototype
Once the concept was clear, Shon began sketching designs and thinking through how to scale a “shower cap” style cover to fit:
Ceiling fans
Chandeliers
Sofas, loveseats, and recliners
Appliances and more
After talking with friends and family, it became clear the idea had real potential.
Shon then began working with a manufacturer in Wisconsin to create and refine the first Ceiling Fixture Cover prototypes. Over the next two years, the design was improved and tested to make sure it would be practical, durable, and easy to use.
The Patent and the Next Step
As the product took shape, it was time to protect the idea legally and prepare for growth.
- October 31, 2023 – The CAP-IT Ceiling Fixture Cover was granted U.S. Patent No. 11,802,570, officially recognizing the unique design and function of the product.
With the patent in place, the focus shifted to finding the right manufacturing partner to produce the covers efficiently and at scale.
